Aids

HIV refers to the human immunodeficiency virus. The virus HIV infects and gradually destroys immune system cells, reducing the body’s protection against infection and cancer. HIV infection can lead to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

HIV is often transmitted through unprotected sex. However, any blood and body fluid exchanges can put you at risk. It affects special CD4 cells found in your blood that are responsible for fighting infection. HIV destroys the CD4 cells by reducing their numbers thus leaving the person infected by HIV with a high risk of developing other serious disease.

AIDS was a term first used when physicians did not fully understand the HIV virus. AIDS describe the latter stages of HIV. This is when the immune system has stopped working and the person develops a life threatening condition like pneumonia.

What are the symptoms?

In the initial stages of AIDS/HIV, 60% of the people will experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Tiredness
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Swollen glands
  • A blotchy rash on the chest

The early stage symptoms are normally mild and can be mistaken for other conditions like a common cold or glandular fever.

Late stage AIDS/HIV symptoms indicate that CD4 cells in the body are dangerously low and your body is very susceptible to infection. They include

  • Persistent tiredness
  • Night sweats
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Persistent diarrhea
  • Blurred vision
  • White spots on your tongue ,or mouth
  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever of above 37C that last a number of weeks
  • Swollen glands that last for more than three months.

Miracles for men encourage you to seek a physician diagnosis in case of any of the above symptoms and to ensure you get proper diagnosis.

What is the Treatment for AIDS/HIV?

There is no known cure or vaccine for AIDS/HIV. However, a combination of anti-HIV drugs is used to slow down the damaging effects of the virus in the body. Combination therapy has greatly reduced deaths related to AIDS. This has led to more people living with the virus.

Reducing the Risk of Infection

Since there is no known cure for AIDS/HIV infection, Miracles for men encourages living a healthy lifestyle.

  • Use a condom for vaginal and anal sex
  • Use a dental dam for oral sex with a woman
  • Do not share needles

If already infected with HIV, you can still live a healthy lifestyle for a long time while avoiding AIDS.

  • Avoid smoking
  • Do not use illegal drugs
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Take regular exercise

AIDS/HIV is a deadly disease and living a healthy lifestyle is essential in avoiding it. It is however not a death sentence as it was a few years ago. It is still possible to live a very long time as long as one follows a healthy lifestyle without the social stigma attached to it.
