What is Androstenedione?

It has been claimed that supplemental androstenedione can significantly increase blood testosterone levels and build muscle. The muscle-building supplement, Androstenedione (Andro), is classified as an anabolic steroid and as such, it is illegal to use without a legitimate medical reason.

Androstenedione is a supplement made from a naturally occurring steroid hormone. The body metabolizes androstenedione into testosterone, which is considered a steroid. When supplements of testosterone are taken in high doses, they are known to have an anabolic effect increasing muscle size and strength.

Side Effects and Warnings of Androstenedione

The FDA has made Androstenedione a controlled substance and you should not take it without talking to your doctor first especially if you are taking Testosterone.

Before taking Androstenedione, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Long term use of this product may affect liver function. Women with a family history of or who have had breast cancer should only take this supplement after talking to their doctor. Men with prostate problems should only take this supplement after talking to their doctor

Since it has been termed as a steroid, you should seek immediate advice from your medical practitioner if you have any of the following side effects with a product using Androstenedione as an ingredient:

• Headache
• Aggressive behaviour, mood swings, and bad moods
• Excessive use can cause slow growth
• Increased sex drive
• Increase in body and facial hair
• Acne
• Hair loss
• Your skin may become more sensitive to the sun and may burn easier
• Breast growth in men, liver problems, or testicles that are getting smaller can occur
