Appendicitis
Appendicitis refers to an inflammation of the appendix. The appendix is a small pouch located in the lower right side of the abdomen. The reason to have an appendix is still unclear though scientists think that it can house “friendly bacteria”.
There is no obvious cause for Appendicitis. Obstruction is thought to occur when a hard piece of stool is trapped in the appendix. This can lead to an infection and or an obstruction that causes the appendix to be filled with bacteria. The bacteria produce pus, which causes the appendix to swell.
Appendicitis must be treated immediately. The swelling can cause the appendix to burst. This can lead to conditions like blood poisoning that can be fatal.
Symptoms of Appendicitis
The first sign of appendicitis is a sharp pain in your abdomen or stomach. The pain develops very fast and gets more severe in the cause of a few hours. The pain will settle in the lower right side of the abdomen. Applying pressure to the area of the pain will only make it worse. Coughing, laughing or walking will also make the pain worse.
You may also experience the following:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Constipation
- High temperature
- Diarrhea
Miracles for Men encourage you to get immediate medical attention especially if it continues for some time.
Treating Appendicitis
If the appendicitis is very mild, the inflammation can be treated with antibiotics. If the condition is serious, treatment will be done through either a laparoscopy or a traditional appendectomy.
A laparoscopic appendectomy leaves the patient with minimal scarring and fast recovery period. It involves a small incision in the affected area through which the appendix is removed.
A traditional appendectomy is used when a large incision is required. This may be necessary in cases where the appendix has burst, for those with repeated abdominal surgery, pregnant women or those with a tumor in their digestive system.
How to Prevent Appendicitis
A diet high in fiber is recommended to reduce the incidence of appendicitis. This is because high fiber foods soften the stool reducing the chances of it being stuck in the appendix.
Wholegrain cereals, bread, rice, carrots, and fruits are good sources of fiber. You can also include high-fiber supplements available at Miracles for Men.
Appendicitis is easy to treat, however, it is recommended to seek immediate medical attention if you suspect you have it. It should always be considered whenever there is severe or persistent abdominal pain.
