How Hair Loss Treatment Worked for Me

Email To a Friend 22 June 2009 My story is very interesting because I personally didn’t know that I was balding until I had to call a repair man to unclog the shower drain in my flat. I always had thick, naturally curly hair and wore it out most of the time. Being a woman naturally, I became alarmed when I saw the amount of hair that came out of my shower drain. I consulted with my family and friends to see if they noticed any difference and to my disappointment, they concluded that my hair was starting to thin out, in comparison to how it used to be. I didn’t know what to do because I thought that balding was only something that only happened to old men. I continued with my daily routines whilst keeping a diary about my hair loss. I found that by writing about my problem it helped to ease some of my depression.

A few months later, I started to notice that chunks of hair would come off in the wash, and It became apparent that I needed medical help concerning this matter. During a scheduled doctor’s visit, I explained the vexation with my thinning hair and how it sheds more and more by the day.

The doctor informed me of a couple of treatment options that were available, and recommended a drug called Propecia. After a long discussion about my disorder, I decided to try the drug that she was recommending.

After only 1 month of taking the drug, I noticed that my scalp had started shedding both skin and hair. At this point my hair was significantly thinner than it had ever been and I would have liked to have seen some new growth of any kind. During a routine follow-up, I told the doctor about the shedding, and expressed my concerns about not seeing any re-growth. I was advised that I wouldn’t see the full results of treatment until after a year. With faith I continued with the treatment, in the hope that the next phase of these pills would start to kick in.

In the meantime, my mother took the initiative to introduce me to hair extension culture. One Saturday whilst I accompanied her to the hair salon, she coerced her beautician to show me all of the different options that hair extensions provide. I went ahead and tried a couple of pieces to add fullness to my hair while I wait for the drug to take full effect, the hair extensions are great , they have helped to bring back my confidence, So far, so good!
