How I got my Sight back with Laser Eye Treatment
Email To a Friend 30 May 2009 My name is Kimberly and I have had problems with my vision ever since childhood. I am far-sighted and have prescription glasses to help me to regulate my vision. I have always been fearful of surgery so I never even considered laser eye surgery despite the fact that my mother had laser eye surgery a decade ago.I am 30 years old and since the age of 26; I have been cultivating my career as a broadcast journalist. A part of my job involves me reading Teleprompters and cue cards whilst being on camera.
So far, I have gotten by memorising my script beforehand and because my shows were pre-recorded, if I messed up, I could always shoot another take. However recently, my producers have summoned me to guest-host a live show while my colleague was on an extended leave of absence.
At first I struggled because I never wear my glasses on air and I wasn’t writing the content for this show, so I choked on live television a few times. Not only was I embarrassed, I was also concerned that I would be replaced on this time slot as well as my own show. I didn’t know what. I had never even considered Lasik eye surgery as an option.
In a meeting with my manger, I expressed my frustration and I was advised that I would have to confront this issue, as it is detrimental to my flourishing career. Wearing glasses on camera is not a widely accepted custom nor are they visually pleasing to the viewers. I spoke to my mother about my issue she has already had laser eye treatment.
I asked for her support as I needed this surgery in order to perform to my full potential at work. She asked me to let her know the date of my appointment so she could take off time from her job to go with me. She promised that the procedure would be painless would be worth the investment so I went through with it.
She was right! The procedure took an hour and I was in recovery for 36 hours. If I had known that correcting my vision permanently would be this easy, I would have gone through with the surgery a long time ago.
