I Waved Goodbye to my Fear of Failure

Email To a Friend My name is Andrew and I would like to share my story with you. I am a 22 year old working model that has worked in three different continents over the last six months. At 19 years old, I was approached by a model scout while hanging out with my friends at the local shopping centre in London. I was told that I had a marketable face and that I should stop by an agency in downtown London to get measured and schedule a test shoot. The model scout gave me her card and I resumed conversing with my friends. That night I told my girlfriend about my encounter and she encouraged me to follow-up with the agency to see if the offer was legitimate. I asked her to join me and the following week went downtown to meet the agents.

When I walked in and showed them the business card I was given, they asked me to get undressed and started to measure me. They told me that I had a wonderful face but were concerned about my body mass index. I never even heard of such a thing until they mentioned it. They went on to tell me that I had an average body and body fat percentage for a male my age; however, I wasn’t the ideal weight for the industry. They took pictures of me anyway and told me that they have an account with a local gym, gave me a name of a person I should ask for, and told me that I had a month to work on my problem areas (my stomach) while they begin to submit my pictures to clients.

I met my girlfriend in the lobby and told her what happened. She was excited for me that I was about to join a real modelling agency and become a model. I went to the gym as directed and worked diligently for the next month to tighten up my midsection. In the meantime, I did go on a few castings with no success. As the months went by, I went on tons of castings with no success of booking anything. As I kept in contact with the agency, they monitored my weight loss and there was none. I couldn’t be more disappointed that I could possibly miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime. I became very worried and somewhat depressed about my situation and the stress eventually ended my 3 year relationship with my girlfriend. After tons of rejection I finally landed a gig which set the tone for a very successful turn of events.
