Cats Claw

What is Cats Claw?

The Ashaninka Indians of Peru have been using the herb Cats Claw for ages in the treatment of all manner of conditions. In fact, they treat all types of infectious diseases, many cancerous disorders and inflammations using the Cats Claw herb.

Cats Claw has been quickly adopted in Western medicine to assist patients with symptoms of disorders such as cancer, the human immune-deficiency disease or HIV and to treat all other infections in the body. In the West it is also used in the treatment of disorders such as arthritis, symptoms of asthma and ulcers - and other long term or persistent inflammatory illnesses.

The most attention was given to the oxindole alkaloids found in the bark and roots of Cats Claw, which have been documented to stimulate the immune system. The most active alkaloid is believed to be Isomer A, which increases the immune response in the body and act as antioxidants to rid the body of free radicals.

Compounds found in Cat's Claw may also work to kill viruses, bacteria, and other micro organisms that cause disease, and they work to inhibit healthy cells from becoming cancerous.

In short, some of the main benefits of Cats Claw as a supplementary ingredient have been:

  • Reduce pain and inflammation of rheumatism, arthritis and other types of inflammatory problems.
  • Have anti-tumour and anti-cancer properties that inhibit cancerous cell formation.
  • Promote the healing of wounds.
  • Useful for treatment of gastric ulcers and intestinal complaints
  • Help to relieve chronic pain.
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating the immune system.
  • Help people experiencing stomach and bowel disorders, including colitis, Crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, leaky bowel syndrome, gastritis and duodenal ulcers, intestinal inflammation, and to
  • Help fight both viral and fungal infections such as Herpes and Candida

Side Effects and Warnings of Cats Claw

The harmless and low toxic nature of the herb is confirmed from the latest evidence derived from studies. The result show that the cat's claw is reasonably safe as far as human use is concerned.

Some mild side effects such as intermittent diarrhoea or persistent constipation occurring on a regular basis might just affect some individuals taking the herb - in any given population; therefore, the herb is not without some side effects.

However, many doctors would be cautious giving Cats Claw or any other supplements to pregnant or lactating women.

It is always advisable to seek your doctor’s advice especially if you are using any other vaccines or hormonal medication.
