Choline Bitartrate
What is Choline Bitartrate?Choline is a dietary supplement used to treat high cholesterol, improve memory, and protect the liver. Other names for Choline include: CDP-choline, Citicoline, Phosphatidylcholine, Polyenylphosphatidylcholine (PPC), and Tetra-methylglycine.
Research suggests that dietary choline is very important for the prevention of many pathologic conditions, and has been used as a dietary supplement for the purpose of treating or preventing several human diseases including arteriosclerosis and certain deficiencies of brain function and memory.
It is well-known that acetylcholine (Ach) is central to our mental function, and especially our ability to focus and to remember facts and verbal information. Acetylcholine is made in the nervous system from a B-vitamin-like raw material called choline bitartrate which comes from lecithin.
Choline has also been shown to be essential for proper brain development in infants and children. In fact, supplementation of animal diets with choline or lecithin at particular times of brain development has been shown to permanently increase cognitive function.
Foods such as eggs, soybeans, peanuts, and liver, are the predominant source of choline in the human diet.
