Damiana

What is Damiana?

Damiana is an herbal shrub that is known as a strong aphrodisiac with a variety of reported effects on both the hormonal and reproductive systems. It is most widely used to enhance sexual potency and is said to induce a dream-like state of euphoria that can spark sexual desire and performance.

Damiana leaves have been used as an aphrodisiac and to boost sexual potency by the native peoples of Mexico, including the Mayan Indians and is used for both male and female sexual stimulation, increased energy, asthma, depression, impotence and menstrual problems.

Damiana herb has also been used as a general tonic for both men and women, particularly when hormone-related conditions are present. The herb has antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects as well, particularly when sexual dysfunction is a symptom of such emotional imbalances. In addition, damiana herb is said to have diuretic and mild laxative effects.

Side Effects and Warnings of Damiana

Damiana has been used for ages with no known side effects if it is taken in moderate quantities. This is one of the reasons you should always follow the product usage instructions and also seek advice from your medical practitioner.

It is thought that large quantities of Damiana taken internally may cause insomnia and headaches and in some cases liver damage. Since its effects on the female hormonal system are not entirely understood, damiana herb should not be taken during pregnancy.
