How to deal with Infidelity
There are few things that can hurt a family more than infidelity. It is probably the single most important reason for divorce around the world. Infidelity can hurt not only the partners involved but the children and other family members too. The pain involved can be so devastating that there are those who suffer depression and never recover to their former selves. This does not have to be the case as one can not blame themselves for their partner’s poor decisions.
It is ok to feel hurt and low in the beginning but one should as soon as possible get a new attitude to life. After discovering a partner’s infidelity, it is time to start thinking of you first. Instead of taking your anger looking for the other woman or the other man, take your time to start loving yourself first. It is important to begin seeing the good in yourself if only to improve your self esteem during this period. Once you are able to start taking care of yourself, you will be able to tackle the issue without further hurt to your self esteem.
If you had been spending most of your time taking care of your partner and forgot how to indulge in yourself, then this is an opportunity that was just handed to you. Hire a nanny and start spending more time on the things that you had foregone for the sake or your relationship. Go to the discount store and buy new clothes. Get a makeover. It is time to remind yourself that you are worth every penny you can get. There is nothing that makes a person feel better than indulging. That is the reason malls were created, isn’t it?
Find people to talk to. It is interesting how infidelity reminds us of the friends and family we once used to know. If you don’t have friends, find one. No one has stopped you from dating and making new friends. This time you know the mistakes that were made before and the type of relationship you are not willing to go through. You are now a stronger person and will probably make a better relationship.
Set new goals. If you have decided to go it alone, then it is time to redo your life goals. If you had decided to put your career on hold, you could decide to restart it. Go back to school, join the local gym. Setting new goals will let you keep your mind off the failed relationship and every time you achieve these goals will greatly improve your self esteem.
Infidelity though a painful experience, is not the end of the world. It might actually be the trigger to start living life again. There is no need to allow yourself self pity and negative thoughts. There is a whole life ahead of you and it is only waiting for you to reach for it.
