Muscles
Muscles are the "engine" that your body uses to propel itself. Muscles turn energy into motion and are incredibly sophisticated. They are long-lasting, they are self-healing and they are able to grow stronger with practice.
Muscles are what the brain uses to express itself. This is in the form of muscular motion. For example when you want to protect yourself, the brain thinks of a way to protect, and then your skeletal muscles express the defensive motion.
There are three types of muscles
- Cardiac muscle is found only in your heart, and its big features are endurance and consistency. It is a twitch muscle only and contracts involuntarily,
- Smooth muscle - Found in your digestive system, blood vessels, bladder, and airways and, in a female, the uterus. Smooth muscles can stretch and maintain tension for long periods and contract involuntarily, and
- Skeletal muscles - These are muscles we can see and feel. They normally come in pairs with one muscle moving in one direction and the other in the opposite direction.
The main skeletal muscles in our bodies include
A muscle is a bundle of many cells called fibers. You can think of muscle fibers as long cylinders, and compared to other cells in your body, muscle fibres are quite big. Without muscles, it would be impossible to do anything with our bodies.
