Natural Whey Protein

What is Whey Protein?

For those who are serious athletes, whey protein has become one of the most valued sources of protein. Whey protein is a natural protein made from cow’s milk which provides an excellent source of essential amino acids without the baggage of fat and cholesterol.

Whey protein is one of the best sources of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) known today. BCAAs are especially important for the preservation of muscle mass. Increasing BCAA levels can prevent the cannibalization of muscle tissue that occurs when the body needs more energy than it can produce.

A recent study suggests that whey may curb effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar. This can be good news for people suffered from diabetes. Drinking a whey supplement mixed with water along with a high-carbohydrate meal, like mashed potatoes with meatballs, prevented the dramatic spikes in blood sugar that normally occur in people with type 2-diabetes.

Since whey protein is a natural product, very few side effects have been recognised while using it. However, before you start taking whey protein, you should consult your medical practitioner on whether it is safe for you to use.
