The Benefits of Weight Training

One does not have to be a bodybuilder or a power lifter to benefit from weight training. Unlike bodybuilding that involves having heavy muscle bound bodies, weight training tones, tightens and trims fat in our bodies. Any sportsman or the average jock at home can get the benefits of weight training without the need to be an all out muscled body builder.

There are huge benefits in adding weight training as part of your lifestyle. This range from added wellness and self-esteem to alleviation of injury or health conditions. You can add to your wellness by using weight training to stay physically and mentally fit, build a great body image, socialising and even increasing your athletic performance. You can also use weight training to improve your chances against disease like diabetes, heart disease and other weight related illnesses.

Weight Training for Bodybuilding

Every athlete needs to improve on their performance and this includes shaping and toning of muscles so that they are able to bear the load of any sport. Athletes in every sport though not necessarily going for bulky muscles, still need to have a muscular structure that enables them to avoid injury and improve their performance.

For those who are not athletes, a good weight lifting program will allow them to gain self-esteem and confidence. There is nothing more beautiful than a well-toned body. This leads to increased confidence in the midst of strangers and friends.

Weight Training for Weight Management

Weight training is one of the best exercises to manage weight gain and also increase weight loss if one is too heavy. Due to the fact that good weight training enables you to burn more calories as well as help in gaining efficient metabolism, it can be used adequately for weight management. This is essential for both the athlete and the average person.

In most diet programs, it is important to add weight training as it helps to maintain bone density while losing weight through calorie restriction. Most diet programs only concentrate on losing calories while not taking into account that you might be weakening your bones and muscles. Adding weight training will help you lose the fat as well as keep your bone strength intact or stronger.

Weight Training for Strength and Balance

Proper weight training means increased strength. Joints and muscles work more efficiently to increase balance, flexibility, and stamina and injury prevention. Due to the muscle building effects in weight training, some have advocated its use in reducing the onset of ageing. By reducing the effect of muscle decline as one grows older, some of the side effects of ageing can be reduced and for some reversed.

For the athlete, a good weight training programme will increase balance and strength in order to compete at the highest levels. Proper weight training increases your chances of having energy reserves when your natural source is depleted during competition.

All in all a good weight training program will increase your whole body wellness. A regular weight training program improves your sleep pattern, which in turn improves your immune function thus improving your overall health. Add weight training to your lifestyle and you will notice a better feeling, healthier and happier person.
