The Chest
The chest is the large portion of the body below the chin and above your waist. It is probably one of the most important to body builders and other sportsmen mainly because it supports other parts of the body such as the head, and torso.
Anatomy of the Chest
The chest is made up of the following muscles;
- Pectoralis Major, and to a lesser extent,
- Pectoralis Minor
Functions of the Chest
The function of the Pectoralis Major is to bring the humerus across the chest. A fly movement is the best example of this action.
The Pectoralis Minor serves to move the shoulder area forward. This can be seen by shrugging your shoulder forward.
Exercises that work the chest muscles include:
Flat barbell bench press, Dumbbell flyes, Push-ups, the Incline barbell bench press, Cable crossovers and Dips.
