Training Tips for Basketball Players
We all need to learn something new everyday. The best basketball players train hard on even the old things. Training for the best basketball players is just as important as the game itself. The training should involve improving basketball technique and also physical fitness. There are a lot of things that a basketball player can do to improve both aspects of their game. Some of which would include:
1. Play the Game
Practice makes perfect. The more you play basketball, the better you become. You will not only improve your basketball technique, you will also be improving your physical shape. You should always consider warming up your muscles before every game though to avoid any injuries. Cold muscles will tend to get more injuries.
When playing the pick up game, do all you can do to do as much as you can to replicate a good game? Running, sprinting, jumping during a pick up game will improve on your physical shape and get you ready for the real game. Do not believe Allan Iverson when he says he does not train. Every pick up game for him is just as intense as the real game.
2. Proper Sports Nutrition
The game of basketball is very physically intensive. Playing without the proper sports nutrition is harmful to your health. Consider having sport drinks before, during and after any game or training. A dehydrated basketball player will likely be a poor basketball player. Good sports drinks not only include the required water but also valuable nutrients to replenish your body.
If you are constantly training, you are using a lot of your nutrients. Sports drinks will help but you also need to think about sports bars to add to your daily diet. Proper sports nutrition will make you a better player.
3. Jump Rope
Jump rope drills will increase your overall fitness level. A good five minute jump rope session will not only help your heart but also improve on your jumping skills. Good basketball players need to be good jumpers in order to deal with rebounding, shooting and blocking.
Do 30 seconds half paced jumps. Increase the pace in the next 30 seconds then 30 seconds with both feet. Rest for 1 minute between changing paces. Increase your pace for each session and alternate your feet.
4. Interval Basketball Training
If you wish to really push your fitness level, add interval training to your sessions. Interval training involves exercising at high intensity, followed by lower intensity rest periods, followed by high intensity training.
For example you can do the half court sprint as your interval training. Sprint to the half court from the baseline at full speed, touch the half court line. Sprint back to the base line at half pace. Touch the base line and sprint back to the half court line at full speed. The fitter you get, the more you increase the sessions.
There are many more great basketball training tips. The common thread is being prepared by having the proper sports nutrition, bodybuilding and weight training together with the usual basketball skills training.
