Waist
The waist is the part of the abdomen in between the rib cage and hips.
On proportionate people, the waist is the narrowest part of the torso. In women; the waist will normally be narrower than men of similar weight and size.
Waistline refers to the horizontal line where the waist is narrowest, or to the general appearance of the waist. People who diet are often said to be trying to "improve" their waistline. The size of the waist is important in nearly all cultures as a mark of beauty or fashion. Some like a larger waist while others a smaller one.
Some of the muscles associated with the waist include:
- The obliques which are the external obliques and the internal obliques, and
- The abdominals which include the rectus abdominis and the serratus anterior.
