What fruits and vegetables provide the best energy?

The age old preaching of our mothers "Eat your fruits and vegetables" has now become a tried and tested suggestion for following a balanced diet. There is much reason to believe that fruits and vegetables provide our bodies with all kinds of important vitamins and minerals that would otherwise be hard to get. Eating plenty of fruits and veggies help in warding off cardiovascular diseases, controlling blood pressure, protecting from certain kinds of cancer, averting diseases leading to a loss of vision and much more.

Eating at least two servings of fruits and three of vegetables per day, keeping in mind that diversity in colors is important for getting the most out of them, is the minimum requirement.

In the celebrity-obsessed society of today, everyone is trying to trim down their bodies to look great. What we sometimes forget in the process is that it’s not only looking great that matters but feeling great is also important. A line of different diet programs has sprouted as a result of growing demand. The focus of these diets on some particular nutrient or mineral is alarming especially ones that concentrate on proteins alone and completely discourage the use of carbohydrates, the main energy providing nutrient. This includes the Atkins diet, which is probably the most popular of them all.

Dr. Atkins’ low carb movement diet has lead to the creation of anti-carb supporters everywhere. Special low carb foods are now being prepared by manufacturers to cash in on the trend.

There is plenty of reason to believe that carbohydrates can be very harmful to the health no doubt. But this is only for pure refined carbs like white bread, cereals, pasta and so on. These can lead to elevated blood sugar levels causing diseases like diabetes and heart diseases.

But before you completely give up on your carbs, remember all carbohydrates are not bad. The encouraging results produced by the Atkins diet as a result of a high protein and low or no carb diet has blinded people to the good qualities of carbohydrates. An adequate amount of this energy-giving nutrient is extremely important for a good health. The trick is to go for the right carbohydrates such as ones found in fresh fruits and vegetables. These not only maintain normal blood pressure levels but also provide the body with fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that generally cannot be found in other food types.

Choosing the right carbohydrates found in fruits and vegetables provide the body with more energy, help in getting good nights’ sleep, cut down on sweet cravings and keeps you fit and healthy. Make fruits and vegetables an essential part of your diet. Having variety is significant. While looking at your groceries wait and observe if you have plenty of colors there. Consume as much uncooked fruits and vegetables as you can whilst following the size of your metabolic type. Remember, to function well our body needs energy that is mainly provided by carbohydrates and to make sure you don’t go wrong with your choice of carbs, look to fruits and vegetables.
