When To See A Dermatologist

Are you one of many that feel they should go see a dermatologist about their acne, which is the cause of oily skin, but are unsure whether it’s needed? Look at this list of questions:

  • Will I outgrow my acne?
  • Is there medication that will help me get rid of acne?
  • Will over-the-counter medicines ever help my acne?
  • Is it possible to ever get rid of it?
  • Will I be left with scars?
  • When does it get bad enough to look for new options?

Do you ask yourself any of these? If yes, grab the phone and make an appointment.

Most importantly, if you are anxious about yours or your child’s acne, do not hesitate to see a dermatologist as it can do no harm and might put your worries to rest.

Now coming to other reasons to see your dermatologist. Every person’s acne differs. What may have worked for one may not work for another? To get a personalized opinion, a dermatologist is your best option. He will observe your particular kind of acne and help you find a solution that is most suitable for you.

If neglected, your acne may go from bad to worse. Home treatments may hardly show any results or more alarmingly, worsen the situation. If you have tried home remedies for six to eight months without getting anywhere, it’s time you stopped and seek professional help. All the patience you have shown in waiting for results from homemade concotions can be applied in a more beneficial way to your dermatologists’ advised regime

You may notice your zits getting larger and filled with mucous. They may get a hard feel and start hurting more. This is a sign your acne is reaching danger zone. It is time for you to turn to someone who knows what he is doing. Of course this someone has to be a dermatologist.

Another sign you need to see your dermatologist is if your skin breaks out after being exposed to some pollutant. It may not be your usual oily skin related acne but something much more serious like an allergic or toxic reaction.

People who are unfortunate enough to inherit acne must see their dermatologist. You can ensure its genetic by observing other people in your family. If they have it and you have started showing signs, especially in your teens, chances are you have it.

There are times when acne may lead to emotional problems especially in teenagers. It can lead to embarrassing situations causing low self-esteem. Some people feel hesitant visiting a dermatologist just for a little oily skin but if that same greasy skin is causing you to feel down, it is only sensible to see someone that can help you. If your acne has left marks or scars on your face, a dermatologist can in most cases safely remove them without leaving any telltale signs.

Do not shrink back from help that is easily available. You don’t want to suffer long-term consequences of a little undue apprehension on your part.
